What Is My Yoga or Pilates Studio Worth?

Natalie McMullen·January 30, 2026·1 min read

Yoga, Pilates, barre, and dance studios attract passionate buyer pools — people who love the practice and want to own a studio. But valuations are grounded in the financials, and the studio business model has unique challenges.

Typical Valuation Ranges

Most studios sell for 1.5x to 2.5x SDE.

Factors that push toward the higher end:

  • Strong membership base with monthly autopay
  • Multiple revenue streams (classes, privates, workshops, retail, teacher training)
  • Instructor team (not just the owner teaching)
  • Revenue above $300K
  • Recognizable brand with loyal community
  • Long-term lease in high-traffic location
  • Low membership churn (under 8% monthly)

Factors that push toward the lower end:

  • Owner teaches most classes
  • Drop-in revenue dominant (no memberships)
  • Single modality without diversification
  • Short remaining lease
  • High instructor turnover
  • Declining membership count

What Drives Value

Membership revenue on autopay is the foundation. Studios with 200+ active members on monthly plans have predictable, recurring revenue that buyers will pay for.

Instructor retention matters enormously. If your best teachers leave, members follow. Studios with loyal, committed instructors are worth more.

Community and brand — the intangible but real connection members feel to your studio — is the most transferable asset beyond the financials. Strong brands retain members through ownership changes.

How to Increase Your Value

  1. Build membership. Convert drop-in students to monthly unlimited or class-pack memberships.
  2. Diversify revenue. Teacher training programs, private sessions, corporate wellness, workshops, and retail add revenue streams.
  3. Retain instructors. Competitive pay, schedule flexibility, and community culture keep your teaching team intact.
  4. Reduce owner teaching load. Hire instructors for the classes you currently teach. A studio that depends on the owner's classes is hard to sell.
  5. Secure your lease. 5+ years remaining in a location with good visibility and accessibility.
